EC Principles of Business Administration (15 ECTS)

The expansion curriculum Principles of Business Administration is aimed at all students who want to expand their studies by a (basic) economic component and acquire a basic knowledge of business administration. Furthermore, the EC Principles of Business Administration, together with the EC "Business Methods", addresses all those students of the University of Vienna who are pursuing a non-economic bachelor's degree but later wish to either enter the master's program "Business Administration", "International Business Administration" or "Banking and Finance".


The EC Principles in Business Administration contains the following compulsory modules:

Compulsory module (1): Introduction to Business Administration (5 ECTS)

  • VO Introduction to Business Administration (5 ECTS)

Compulsory module (2): Principles of Management I (4 ECTS)

  • VO ABWL Management I (3 ECTS)
  • Independent reading (1 ECTS)

Compulsory module (3): Principles of Management II (6 ECTS)

Electives (2 out of 3 offers):

  • VO Financial Accounting 1 (3 ECTS)
  • VO ABWL Marketing I (3 ECTS)
  • VO ABWL Production and Logistics I (3 ECTS)

This EC is offered in collaboration with the Department of Business Decisions and Analytics and the Department of Accounting, Innovation and Strategy.

Registration requirements

The EC Principles of Business Administration can be chosen by all students of the University of Vienna, who do not pursue a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, in International Business Administration or in Economics.

Participation requirements

  • The successful completion of the module "PM 1: Introduction to Business Administration" is a prerequisite for the other two modules. These are:
    • „PM 2: Principles of Management I"
    • „PM 3: Principles of Management II"

EC Methods in Business Administration (15 ECTS)

The expansion curriculum Business Methods is aimed at all students who want to expand their studies with a methodological-economic component and want to acquire basic knowledge in the fields of Statistics as well as Decision and Game Theory. Furthermore, the EC Methods in Business Administration, together with the EC "Principles of Business Administration", addresses all those students of the University of Vienna who are pursuing a non-economic bachelor's degree but later wish to either enter the master's program "Business Administration", "International Business Administration" or "Banking and Finance".


The expansion curriculum Business Methods comprises the following compulsory modules:

Compulsory module (1): Basic Principles of Statistics (5 ECTS)

  • VO Basic Principles of Statistics (5 ECTS)

Compulsory module (2): Basic Principles of Economics (5 ECTS)

  • VO Principles of Economics (5 ECTS)

Compulsory module (3): Quantitative Methods in Business Administration (5 ECTS)

  • VO Quantitative Methods in Business Administration (5 ECTS)


Offered jointly by the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, the Department of Economics and the Department of Business Decisions and Analytics.

Registration requirements

The EC Principles of Business Administration can be chosen by all students of the University of Vienna, who do not pursue a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, in International Business Administration, in Statistics or in Economics. Students who are currently attending or who have already completed either the extension curriculum "Basic Statistics", "Principles of Economics" or "Economy-Society-Government" are excluded from this extension curriculum.

EC Entrepreneurship (15 ECTS)

Compulsory module (1): Basic decisions of a start-up (11 ECTS)

  • VO EC EP: Private business law (2 ECTS)
  • VO Finanzwirtschaft für Studierende des EC Entrepreneurship (2 ECTS)
  • VO Accounting for students of the Complementary Study Programme (Minor) Entrepreneurship (4 ECTS)
  • VO Marketing (for EC EP) (3 ECTS)

Compulsory module (2): From the initial idea to the customer (4 ECTS)

  • VK Strategic Management of Enterprises (4 ECTS)

The EC is offered in collaboration with the Department of Business Law and the Department of Accounting, Innovation and Strategy. 

Registration Requirements

The EC Entrepreneurship can be chosen by all the students of the University of Vienna, whose field of study is not a business-oriented one (e.g. Business Administration, International Business Administration, Economics).

Teilnahmevoraussetzung

  • The successful completion of the "compulsory module (1): Basic decisions of a start-up" is a prerequisite for attending the "compulsory module (2): From the initial idea to the customer".

EC Global Corporate Management (15 ECTS)

Compulsory module (1): Markets & Strategy  (8 ECTS)

  • EK International Strategic Management (4 ECTS)
  • VK Market Entry Strategies (4 ECTS)

Compulsory module (2): Organization & Human Resources (7 ECTS)

  • EK Organization of the Firm (4 ECTS)
  • VK Global Human Resources (3 ECTS)


Offered by the Department of Business Decisions and Analytics.

Registration Requirements

The EC Global  Corporate  Management can be chosen by all the students of the University of Vienna, whose field of study is not a business-oriented one (e.g. Business Administration, International Business Administration, Economics).

Participation requirements

  • In-depth university courses (VK) are based on the content of introductory university courses (EK) and should therefore only be attended by students after having completed the corresponding EK.

  • In justified cases, a parallel visit is also possible.
